If you have never been to Kneader’s and had their French Toast then I feel a little bad for you. No worries though. This French Toast is much better. I do hate to admit it but because it’s a lot cheaper to feed the family, with this French Toast than to take them all to Kneader’s. It’s easier too. Taking 6 kids out anywhere is no fun.
I pick this French Toast for my Mother’s Day breakfast every year. When the kids were younger, I would make it all the night before so it was easy to just cook up on Mother’s Day morning. This year, I had all my cooking classes make it for their moms so they could all enjoy this amazing breakfast; my kids included.
I do change it up at times with my syrups. I thought I liked Cinnamon Syrup the best but this year I did a fun combination of Vanilla, Caramel, and Coconut Syrup. I don’t want to make it confusing so here is basically what I did. I made the coconut syrup recipe but used 1 cup of brown sugar and 1 cup of white sugar. The rest was the same and it was divine. I’ve been very obsessed with coconut lately and this hit the spot. I even ended up making coconut caramel macrons on Mother’s Day and they were amazing. I should share what I did. Just not right now.
This French Toast needs to be planned out in advance. It is best with day-old bread. For me, it means I need to start my bread on Thursday if I want it on a Sunday. I make a yummy sourdough bread but if you don’t have access to it, a good French Bread Loaf will be just fine. I’ve even used Texas Toast and it was amazing.
Make the egg mixture and dip your bread in it the night before. Cover it and let it sit overnight in the fridge.
Bake it up slowly. I like to do it between 325-350 degrees. You want to cook it slowly so it doesn’t burn the outside and not be cooked on the inside. It takes about 2-3 minutes on each side.
Whip up some whipped cream on top and add some fruit if you want. A lot of times we just use homemade strawberry jam along with the syrup but I try to have fresh raspberries. This year I toasted up some coconut and added that on top too. If you don’t like coconut then just don’t put coconut. It made for a really pretty picture though.
French Toast
6 Eggs
1 Cup Cream
¼ Cup Milk
¼ Cup Sugar
1 tsp. Cinnamon
1 tsp. Vanilla
Day old loaf of Sourdough Bread or French Bread Loaf
1-Make sure you have all your ingredients.
2-Clean your work area.
3-Carefully slice the loaf of bread into thick slices (about 1 inch)
4-Crack the eggs into a medium size bowl and whisk them until smooth.
5-Add the cream, milk, sugar, cinnamon, vanilla and mix until smooth.
6-Dip the bread in the eggs mixture and place on a sheet pan. Spread any leftover mix on the top of the slices.
7-Cover the sheet pan with a lid or plastic wrap and place in the fridge overnight.
8-Heat a skillet to 350 degrees. Once it’s warm, place the bread on the skillet and cook the french toast until it has a nice golden brown color to it. It’ll take about 3 minutes on each side. You want it to cook all the way through.
9-Eat the French Toast with your favorite syrup. I love to add raspberries and homemade whipped cream.
10-Clean up mess.
11-Eat, Share, Enjoy!!!
